Upchurch dominate in seven wicket win

Tonbridge CC 1st XI - 119 All Out

Upchurch CC 1st XI - 120 for 3

Tonbridge were thwarted in their hunt for a hat trick of wins in a convincing loss to second placed Upchurch last weekend.

Having elected to bat, the home side got off to a poor start, losing their top three with only fourteen runs on the board. All three fell to opening bowler Daniel Mason (3 for 18). The alarming start would continue however, as Ollie Peake would fall for 4, and three more quick wickets for Archie Young (3 for 24) left Tonbridge reeling on 41 for 7. Mark Burns intro to the crease brought about some respite, and together with Chris Clarke initially they were able to stop the rut and take Tonbridge closer to three figures. Nadeem Shehzad assisted well at number ten, putting on 33 with Burns, who was unfortunately run out on 47. The home side would reach 119 with Shehzad finishing with 21 not out.

Upchurch got out of the blocks positively, but two quick wickets with the score in the 30s suddenly had Tonbridge dreaming of an incredible comeback victory. Junaid Allie would settle the visitors nerves with an aggressive 44 not out, and together with Daniel Parker who would hit 32 not out off 20 balls, they helped their side cross the line with ease and win by seven wickets.

Tonbridge travel to Sibton Park next week with a win required to keep their season intact.
